Hello
I’ve just purchased the “Kindle” version of your “The Booby Fly” book. I find it very interesting and well done.
The book is based on the application of foam for the “Booby style” of fishing.
When I go to purchase foam, for this application,I find that there is a selection of both thickness sizes and colors.
Your book doesn’t make reference to these variables. Do you have guidelines for the size of foam for thickness and length for a specific hook size or pattern?
Similarly, do you have guidelines for the color of foam?
Thank you!
Brian

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad you like the book. Choosing the right booby foam eyes for a specific hook is a bit tricky. There are a lot of foam types on the marked. All are made of some kind of closed cell foam, but they vary considerably in density… and in float ability. Furthermore there are an equally impressive amount of hooks on the marked. So… it’s really up to a bit trial and error, to get it perfect. On the pictures in the book, you will get an idea of the right size for a specific hook.
Remember, that using fluorocarbon leaders (which sinks) will make it a lot more difficult to get the Booby Fly hovering above the sinking line. I prefer classic monofilament nylon for Booby fishing.
Regarding color choice: It depends on the actual pattern. When imitation is the main goal, I choose eyes, that match the baitfish, shrimp or whatever morsel I’m trying to imitate. When provocation is important, I choose contrasting colors.
Tight lines

Hello Michael,
Do you sell flies? I’m particularly interested in buying the nightwatchman fly.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel
Nope, I don’t sell flies, but you can probably get most professional fly tiers to tie a bunch of nightwatchman for you. Should be pretty easy following the instructions on my Youtube video.
All the best

Kære Michael Jensen,
Har endnu engang glædet mig over at læse Flodens Puls.

Endnu engang tak for din interesse.
Mange hilsner
Michael
