The Young & Sons Condex fly reel

IMG_0605When it comes to fly reels I’m kind of biased. I’m deeply fascinated by classic reels from Young & Sons, Hardy, Martin, Pflueger and a few other manufacturers. I personally don’t think a fly reel should look like a donut or a flying saucer.

Today I shot a series of photos of a couple of old Young & Sons Condex reels. These small trout reels were produces from 1949 – 1969.

IMG_0604The Almond Green 3 ¼ inch model was only in production until 1955 – while the Tudor Grey 3 ½ inch probably is a few years newer. Anyway these reels are probably 5… 6 or maybe 7 decades old. True vintage pieces and still effective fly fishing tools. And on a vintage bamboo- or fiberglass rod, they look just right.IMG_0618

How cool is that?
